Symoane Mercurio from our Dispute resolution team, features in 7NEWS Australia discussing the urgent need for reform in South Australia’s strata regulations.
Symoane highlights critical issues, such as the lack of mandatory maintenance plans and sinking funds, which often leave homeowners facing massive repair costs. She also emphasised the importance of improving record-keeping and dispute resolution processes, saying: “If a maintenance plan was mandatory, it requires someone to think through the needs of the property and the timing and costing of those works."
Symoane also suggests that the law should require dispute resolution or mediation before heading to court (similar to Victoria), as it could help streamline resolutions and save homeowners thousands in legal fees.
