FWO Recovery Efforts Highlight Growing Importance of Payroll Compliance

This insight was originally published on RemCheck here.

The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) reported a substantial recovery of $473 million in unpaid wages and entitlements for the 2023-24 financial year. This recovery follows earlier figures of $532 million in 2021-22 and $509 million in 2022-23, indicating the FWO’s intensifying focus on compliance and enforcement to protect employee rights.

These ongoing efforts align with the upcoming wage theft laws set to commence in January 2025, underscoring the FWO’s commitment to holding employers accountable. Acting Fair Work Ombudsman Michael Campbell emphasized the importance of prioritising employee entitlements, stating, “Our investigations and enforcement actions send a clear message that employers must place a higher priority on ensuring they are meeting their workers” legal entitlements, and that includes by improving their payroll systems and governance, and investing in advice.”

With the FWO’s focus intensifying, ensuring your organisation's payroll compliance is more crucial than ever. Contact RemCheck today to discuss strategies to safeguard your payroll processes and remain compliant.
