Cowell Clarke is a fast growing specialist commercial law firm based in Australia. With a team of over 185 professionals in offices in Adelaide and Sydney, we represent clients across various industries both nationally and internationally. Our firm takes pride in fostering a positive culture that empowers our employees to excel.

Founded over 30 years ago, we set out to disrupt the traditional reactive approach of commercial law firms by offering exceptional personal service with a proactive, global perspective. Although we have expanded to build a national presence, our commitment to helping clients seize opportunities and manage risks remains unchanged.

About the role

We are seeking a commercially-minded Corporate Lawyer/Associate with 2+ years’ post-admission experience to join us on a full time basis.

Part of the role will involve working on secondment for our client’s in-house legal team in Moorebank for 3 days per week. The other two days will be working within Cowell Clarke’s leading Corporate & Commercial team in our Sydney CBD office.

On secondment, you’ll work closely with a business that delivers specialised transport services to major, well-known clients. You’ll play a key role in supporting their legal and commercial operations, particularly in reviewing and responding to tenders and advising on a range of contracts.

Your responsibilities will include:

•        Drafting and advising on a variety of commercial agreements

•        Providing pragmatic legal support to day-to-day business operations

•        Ensuring compliance in collaboration with internal stakeholders

•        Engaging with clients and suppliers on contractual matters

About you

This role will suit someone who enjoys getting close to the commercial heartbeat of a business and thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. In addition, we’re seeking:

  • 2+ years post-admission experience in corporate or commercial law

  • A confident communicator with strong drafting skills

  • Ability to work independently and build relationships across a business

  • Previous experience with tenders, transport/logistics or regulated contracts will be well regarded

  • Desire to work in-house and develop a deep understanding of a commercial operation
